Lisanne from CHAPTERTRAVEL: Hi Arianne, how fun to have you as traveler of the month! Let’s get started.
What is your favorite destination?
That is a difficult one. Mexico is probably high in my list, but I am biased as it being the country I grew up in and lived a large part of my life. Another favorite is India, so much to discover and such great hospitality.
We love India too! Mexico is still on our list. Can you maybe tell us more about growing up in Mexico?
It was a beautiful warm place with wonderful people. I grew up in South Mexico: Chiapas, which I think down to my core it is THE most beautiful state in the country. It has so much beauty to offer and it is still widely undiscovered.
Who do you travel with and who is your favorite travel companion?
My favorite travel companion is certainly my fiancee Gianluca. He is almost always by my side!
What is still on top of your bucketlist?
So many places! I would say Bora Bora, Antarctica, Australia, Botswana and Japan.
We would definitely recommend Australia. What do you like most about travel?
The never ending discovery and a sense of wonder. It is a feeling of being a child once again since everything is new.
What is your next destination?
We have a fun unexpected trip planned soon to Rome, and then I’m visiting some friends in London for a few days.
How fun! What was your most recent destination?
We just came back from spending a wonderful weekend in Valpolicella area where Amarone wine is made. There we had a great tour and learned how olive oil is produced. It was fantastic.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Probably still a world traveler discovering new destinations together with Gianluca and maybe with a new mini addition to the family.
You travel a lot! Do you have any tips for other people that want to travel more?
I have some tips that can save you money, which means you can travel more (and longer!).
Try the local food. Even if you are traveling for business be sure to get out of your hotel for meal times and eat street food. If you have a sensitive stomach do some research about safe street food or casual restaurant options that others have tried. It doesn’t only help you save a bit of money when traveling, but it also allows you to experience the culture in more depth.
Buy local products, check where they are made. Not only you are guaranteed a higher quality and originality when made by local artisans but you also reduce some effects of pollution.
Discover slightly less known cities. Everyone has been and heard of Western Europe, but have you ever thought of Eastern? There is just as much culture and gorgeous places to visit! Not to say it will save you money and your photos will be so much more unique than photos from Western Europe. Same with Asia, discover Myanmar, visit Sri Lanka… The opportunities are endless!
Can you share some of your personal favorite travel photos?
Absolutely! Many are on my Instagram, but I’ve sent you some of my favorites!
You can find them at the end of this interview.
If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be and why?
I would like to be somewhere warm and tropical. I would say Bora Bora would be the perfect place right now.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Be sure to be a concious traveler. It is up to us to stop fur trade, animal abuse and more. Before going to any type of animal activity do a serious research and make sure you aren’t being a acomplice on animal abuse. Also when picking a hotel try and choose one that is as environmentally friendly as possible.
So true Arianne! Being a conscious and ethical traveler is very important. We have to work on that every day.
Happy travels!
